ASL UPDATE - PLEASE SEE BELOW WHAT WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE LAST FEW MONTHS.

To offer a high level overview – the ASL has made some significant strides in the few months we have been in existence. What started as a scheduling league quickly turned into something much greater. W will still be a scheduling league but more importantly we are a Training Repository for each Club. What I mean by that is this; we are here to help each Club in anyway that we can. We have formed alliances and partnerships with Soccer Professionals to offer Coaches Training, Players Training, Parents Training, Camps, Tournaments, etc.

To give you an example, we have either finalized or are in the process of finalizing by the end of this month the following:

Coerver Training: We are offering all Clubs the ability to have European Premier League training for their Coaches. If we can train our Coaches to be better Coaches, they will translate that to the field and produce better players. There are many different programs available to each Club.

Positive Coaching Alliance: We are offering Parent and Coaches Seminars to explain what is expected from a Parent perspective as well as what we expect from Coaches. We need to get away from Parents being bad role models on the pitch.

Tampa Bay Rowdies: Training and Fundraising programs have been set up. More details to follow.

Major League Soccer: Coaches training and Athlete Camps. I am meeting with the MLS on 27 January 2009 to finalize the details.

soccer.com: We offer discounts on all uniforms and accessories purchased through soccer.com regardless of brand affiliation. Using the purchasing power of tens of thousands of items helps all of our Clubs reduce their cost. This isn’t just for U8 through U11’s either; this will benefit each Club across their entire organization.

FYSA: Finalizing and approval of our affiliation application expected by they May 2009 FYSA meeting. This will be for the Fall Season

US Club Soccer: Meeting with US Club Soccer on 28 January 2009 to finalize application. This will be for the Spring Season

The above represents just a little of what we have to offer to the Clubs. As a League the 2009/2010 Year will have us offering U8 through U11 Boys and Girls soccer. The proposed format is as follows:

o U8 Boys/Girls – No Scores, No Standings

o U9 Boys/Girls – Scores Kept, No Standings

o U10 Boys/Girls – Scores Kept, Standings Kept

o U11 Boys/Girls – Tryouts, Scores Kept, Standings Kept, Divisions 1 & 2

Please remember these are suggestions to start the conversation on how we want to move forward. Development by definition is an evolution of progression. If our intent is to develop our student athletes to the best of our ability so that by the time they reach the Sr. Age Group they are prepared for the level of skill and competition they are going to face, we should be thinking about our Academy structure now and to how best assisting each other in accomplishing those goals. Once the Athletes get to the U11 Age Bracket, it is a Competitive Format. We are still modifying this and are open to input.

We will TRULY play geographically. There are more than enough teams to make travel very light at these age groups. For example, there is no reason a team from Pinellas would need to go to Lakeland – UNLESS – it was agreed upon by the Coaches.

We also offer End of Year Tournaments and Mini-Jams throughout the year. For the 2009/2010 Year we will be offering this throughout Region C. We have also been asked to implement this in Region A which we will do starting with the 2010/2011 Season. At that time we will also expand to have the age groups go from U8 through U14.

Who is involved right now? Almost 100% of Pinellas County – there are some Clubs in Citrus, Pasco, Polk, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota Counties that have already committed to next year or have asked me to come speak with them about joining. In fact, I just met with several Clubs last week that wants to bring several Clubs (not teams, Clubs) to the ASL next year. Before they did that they wanted to know what our plans are, who was involved, who was running the organization, etc. I believe after presenting what our goals are they have a better understanding of who we are are where we are headed.

Our goal in all of this is to be a Co-Worker alongside of each Club, to offer any assistance that we can and most importantly train the Athletes the proper way while they are young. If we can train them at a younger age while keeping in mind the larger goal we will all be successful.

If I can be of any assistance or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you and would enjoy speaking with you and your Club. I am available almost any time. Thanks in advance!
